Stranded hikers escorted to safety with help from drone

Two hikers and their injured dog were rescued from the wilderness thanks to a firefighter’s personal drone.

After five hours of hiking in New Mexico’s Otero Canyon, the hikers lost their way and had to call 911 for help. Firefighters were able to locate them thanks to a ping from one hiker’s cellphone. However, when the rescue crew tried to escort them approximately 1.5 miles back to base, they also lost their way. That’s when one of the firefighters decided to use his drone to help with the rescue mission.

To learn how the drone helped rescuers escort the hikers and their dog out of the canyon, watch the video above.
